Mrs. Claus’ Resume: The Greatest Female Icon You’ve Never Heard Of

As they like to say, behind every successful man, there’s a woman. Santa Claus is no different.

For this reason, this year we want to celebrate the unsung hero of every Christmas holiday—Mrs. Claus.

Mrs. Claus is amazing. Unfortunately, her portrayal in film and literature rarely reflects it.

She’s usually depicted as a contended stay-at-home wife who exists mainly to attend to Santa’s needs. Which is a shame because, as we’ve discovered, her own accomplishments rival even those of Santa himself.

If Santa’s “ho ho ho” sounds warm and accommodating, Mrs. Claus herself is anything but. Did you know she was one of the first feminist icons ever?

She stepped out of Santa’s shadow as early as 1889. In Katherine Lee Bates’ poem, “Goody Santa Claus on a Sleigh Ride”, she showed herself more than capable of doing Santa’s job in his stead.

In her own words (It’s Christmas, people! Of course you can stomach a bit of poetry once a year!):

Home to womankind is suited? Nonsense, Goodman! Let our fruited Orchards answer for the value of a woman out-of-doors.

Mrs. Claus is really an imposing figure. Besides, much of the credit we normally give to Santa actually belongs to her.

Who do you think has to deal with those infinite Excel spreadsheets to ensure that every child gets the right present?

What’s more, Mrs. Claus has many accomplishments to call her own.

Did you know she’s also an accomplished writer, incredible negotiator, prolific inventor, successful businesswoman and fearless aviator? How come nobody is talking about it?

We hope that after taking a look at Mrs. Claus’ resume below, you’ll have nothing but admiration for this often overlooked woman.

And not only for her. There are millions of others, similar to her, literally everywhere you look!

Merry Christmas! Here’s to you, Mrs. Claus!
